Release Notification Timeline

There are three types of software releases: (1) major release, (2) cumulative update, and (3) hotfix. A brief explanation for what constitutes each type of release is included in the respective release descriptions. Additionally, the communication plan for notifying about release developments is included.

Major Release

A major release is a large feature-based release that generally occurs every few months and includes the following:

  • Major new features
  • *Architecture changes
  • *New marketing naming or branding
  • *Data migration requirements

*This could occur but does not always.

When a major release occurs, you receive the following notifications:

At least 30 days prior to deployment Preview release notes posted
Seven days prior to deployment A new major release is coming; a link to updated release notes included in communication
Just before start of deployment and at the end of deployment Maintenance start and stop notifications

Cumulative Update

A cumulative update is a maintenance release that includes fixed issues and generally occurs between major releases.

When a cumulative update occurs, you receive the following notification:

Hotfix

A hotfix is a small maintenance release that occurs as needed and includes the following:

  • Software update for critical severity issue
  • Released as soon as available

When a hotfix occurs, you receive the following notification:

*Seven days prior to deployment *A new update is coming; a link to updated release notes included in communication

*You will only receive notice of a hotfix if the update will cause down time, if your experience will change, if MAX is affected, or if you are required to take action as a result of the update, such as clearing the cache. Generally the notice comes seven days in advance, but it can be as little as 24 hours. If MAX is affected, you receive notice seven days in advance. The release notes include an appended list of fixed issues.
